Actress Nagma who once ruled the roost in the Film Industry is now in the race for Rajya Sabha seat from Maharashtra as Congress candidate. With union minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh's demise few months back due to multiple-organ faiure, a seat in the upper house has fell vacant and an election for accommodation would be held on January 12.
Few senior party leaders were lobbying for Nagma by trying to convince the High Command that if she was nominated to Rajya Sabha in place of Vilas Rao, then her services could be used for election campaigning all over country as she is a charismatic actress. On the other hand, Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chauhan is making moves to send his close aide Rohitdas Patil to Rajya Sabha and some of the leaders were recommending Vilas Rao's wife Vaisalini to the post.
Although Nagma was denied Congress Lok Sabha ticket from Mumbai in 2009, she campaigned for the party in few places. Congress which is known for giving prominence to loyal party supporters is likely to induct the actress into house this time.
